BBL stands for Broad Band Light and is the most powerful IPL (intense pulsed light) photofacial device on the market made by the laser company Sciton.

How does BBL work?

BBL uses light energy to heat the upper layers of your skin, which stimulates regeneration of skin cells. This results in more vibrant and younger-looking skin. BBL also specifically targets redness and pigment, such as broken blood vessels, freckles, and sun spots, resulting in a clearer, more flawless complexion after treatment.

Who is a candidate?

BBL is a great treatment for Fitzpatrick skin types I-V. BBL is an excellent treatment for rosacea and clearing up sun damage. However, it can make certain types of pigment worse; namely, melasma. Melasma is a hormonal pigment frequently associated with pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy, or hormone changes. It can be diagnosed by a dermatologist or recognized with Wood’s lamp photography, such as with a VISIA camera system. In addition, it is important to take into consideration that the darker the pigment of a person’s skin, the higher the chances of hyper- or hypopigmentation with BBL. What types of photofacials does BBL offer?

BBL Forever Young: BBL Forever Young delivers visible light that penetrates through the epidermis and dermis, which stimulates changes at the molecular level, as well as visible changes in the dermis. What are the different BBL filters?

· 560 nm: targets vascular lesions, such as telangiectasias (broken blood vessels) and rosacea

What is the difference between IPL and BBL?

BBL is the most powerful IPL device on the market. It uses two flashlamps in the handpiece instead of one, and has the ability to treat darker skin types and to reverse tissue aging.

How many treatments do I need?

Typically, a corrective series of 3-5 is recommended at first, separated a month apart. Once the patient is at his or her baseline, quarterly treatments are recommended for maintenance. Start young!
